New Resource for Fairfield County, Ohio

The wonderful folks at the Fairfield County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society have published a tremendous research aid on their website: the Fairfield County Cemetery Index! The Fairfield County Chapter has published readings of all known cemeteries in the county with the exception of Forest Rose Cemetery in Lancaster. While that’s a great resource for genealogists, it can be onerous to search the 15 volumes of Fairfield County cemetery readings individually. This definitely speeds up the process!

The index gives the person’s first name, surname, and in which book they appear. From there, it’s a simple matter of looking up the person in the index of that book.

The cemetery books themselves are not on the website, but are available in numerous libraries, including the Fairfield County Genealogical Library and the Fairfield County District Library (both in Lancaster); the Ohio Historical Society and the Columbus Metropolitan Library (both in Columbus); the Ohio Genealogical Society library in Mansfield; and the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They are also available in numerous county libraries across Ohio and the midwest.

The cemetery books are also available for purchase from the Chapter.
